FOR THE AMUSEMENT OF ALL LITTLE GOOD CHILDREN WHO CAN NEITHER READ NOR RUN
for ensemble & sampler (2013)
A short piece composed around found audio recordings from the 1970s (played back from a sampler) of a little boy singing and telling a series of sarcastic jokes to his friend. Accompanied by the ensemble, he then gives a rendition of the nursery rhyme ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ that sounds like a cross between a Frank Sinatra concert and a horror movie soundtrack. Commissioned by the Gaudeamus Music Week and written for the Curious Chamber Players (SE), conducted by Rei Munakata.
